Video: MNS Men Rain Slaps On Coaching Centre Staff For 'Insulting' Marathi

Workers of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) allegedly assaulted staff at a Physics Wallah coaching centre in Nashik’s Sharanpur Road after students complained that an employee had allegedly insulted the Marathi language and Marathi-speaking learners. According to multiple reports, students claimed the staff member referred to them as “gaonthi” (rustic) and “mannerless” for speaking Marathi instead of Hindi or English, sparking outrage among local MNS cadres.

At least four MNS members then arrived at the coaching centre; video footage shows them confronting the staffer, demanding he respond in Marathi, and then slapping him repeatedly. One person in the video is heard saying: “You come here to earn, you live here, and you insult the local language? Don’t you have any shame?” The assault lasted several blows before the group warned another employee.

After the incident, the MNS activists issued an ultimatum to the coaching centre management, demanding that they appoint Marathi-speaking staff within eight days or face an “MNS-style” protest.

This episode reflects a broader pattern of language-based confrontations linked to the MNS in recent months, with similar incidents — including warnings to a bank official in Mumbai for not speaking Marathi — gaining attention. Critics argue such actions amount to vigilante enforcement of linguistic norms, raising concerns over law and order, workplace safety, and freedom of expression in Maharashtra.

Overall, the episode reignited debate about regional linguistic identity versus social coexistence, especially in urban centres with diverse populations.
